Fellowships
South Asia Women Foundation India (SAWF IN) as the national women's fund supports women, gender non conforming persons and trans* person leaders and changemakers from diverse parts of the country, to promote their constitutional rights, access to legal services, economic empowerment and justice, and efforts to end gender based violence. SAWF IN encourages partnerships with leaders from marginalised identities like Adivasi, Dalits, persons with disabilities, sex workers, women informal workers, construction labourers, farmers and others.
We strongly believes in the leadership and expertise of the communities of most affected, women, trans* persons and gender non conforming persons, in bringing about the most meaningful and sustainable changes to transform and act upon their lived realities. Thus SAWF IN invests into leveraging the expertise and resources of these changemakers and their grassroots organisations, provides them the technical guidance and support, so they can effectively reach out to the local communities and stakeholders, to implement and amplify the much needed change.
Presently SAWF IN runs two fellowship programmes - Legal Fellowship Programme, which supports women lawyers practicing in district courts, strengthens their effort to provide more accessible and prompt legal service to marginalised communities through pro bono litigation and legal counselling, & Economic and Environmental Justice Fellowships that supports women and trans* person changemakers, who are implementing initiatives to enhance economic empowerment and justice for their communities, which challenge ecological risks in their localities.
